A claim is making rounds on the internet. It is being claimed that the FBI has released a Punjabi public service announcement regarding Indian transnational repression asking those who may have been impacted to contact them.
Multiple users across the globe were found to share this claim. We provide the screenshots below.
Gurratan Singh, a Canadian-based lawyer, also shared a similar claim on his Facebook page.
Fact Check
We investigated the viral claim by first checking the FBI’s Twitter handle. During the process, we found no such claim made by their official handle. Furthermore, we checked for the official website and didn’t find any such announcement claims. We found an advisory in all languages on FBI’s website but there is no mention of a Transnational threat or any mention of India.
FBI Threat Intimidation guide helps people living or traveling to the USA know how to handle such a situation. Tourists visiting the USA also receive these pamphlets after visa interviews at the consulate.
Further, the advisory is present in all international languages as well.
Conclusion
Thus from the fact check it is clear that the viral claim is misleading. The FBI has not released a Punjabi public service announcement regarding Indian transnational repression.
