On social media, a video of two women goes viral. While sharing the video users claim that In Madhya Pradesh, some Congressmen buried Dalit women alive in the ground because they did not vote for Congress.”
Another user wrote “two women buried alive by goons for protesting against the construction of a road on private land”.
Fact Check
On investigation, DFRAC found many media reports regarding this video. According to MP Tak this incident is from Hinauta Joraut village of Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh. The report mentions, “The miscreants were forcibly dumping gravel to build a road on private land. A JCB and two Hiba were used for the construction work. Mamta Pandey and Asha Pandey, among others, were opposing this. As soon as the dumper moved forward to dump gravel on the road, the women stood behind it. At the same time, the dumper driver opened the trolley full of gravel on these women and the women got buried under the gravel.” (English Translation)
Furthermore, the statement of Additional Superintendent of Police Vivek Lal has been published in the report of ‘Hindustan’ newspaper. “Vivek Lal said that women named Mamta Pandey and Asha Pandey were protesting against road construction and they got partially buried under gravel. He said that the police is investigating the matter and action will be taken on the basis of evidence. ADG (Law and Order) Jaideep Prasad said that the incident happened due to a dispute within a family. According to Prasad, the complainant Asha Pandey said that the dispute was related to a piece of land jointly owned by her with her relative Gokaran Pandey and when a road was being built on that land, she along with one of her relatives protested against it.” (English Translation)
Moreover, Madhya Pradesh Police wrote on its official X handle MPPoliceDeptt, “ADG Law and Order Shri Jaideep Prasad said that on Saturday, in a family land dispute in village Hinota Kothar of Mangawan police station in Rewa district, gravel fell on two women Asha Pandey and Mamta Pandey. This family is Pandey family, there were no Dalit women/men in it.”
Conclusion
It is evident from the DFRAC’s fact check that this is a case of family dispute between Asha Pandey and Gokaran Pandey. There is no caste angle in this and neither is it a case of Congress leaders burying Dalit women alive in the ground for not voting for them. Therefore, the claim of social media users is misleading.
