Fact Check: The incident of bodies suddenly sitting up and walking in the Delhi AIIMS mortuary did not happen; the viral video is AI-generated

Fact Check en Fake Featured

A CCTV footage is going viral on social media. In this footage, several bodies can be seen lying on stretchers in a morgue. Suddenly, two of the bodies sit up, and shortly afterward, the stretchers along with the bodies start moving back and forth. Users sharing this video claim that it is CCTV footage of an incident at Delhi AIIMS.

Sharing this video on X (formerly Twitter), a user wrote, “Footage of Delhi AIIMS mortuary.. people are calling it AI while some are citing it as a real incident.. I am also confused how this can happen.. the bed, white sheet, and the stunt afterwards.” (English Translation)

Sharing the same video on Facebook, a user named Haidar Pasha wrote, “It will send shivers down your spine! Seeing this horrifying scene at the Delhi AIIMS mortuary will blow your mind! This video, going viral on social media under the name of Delhi AIIMS, has shaken everyone. What happened inside the mortuary in the dead of night was caught on camera. This video warns us that there are many such powers in the world that even science has not been able to understand. Our appeal: This video is not just to scare, but to learn from. Avoid going out alone in isolated places in the dark of night. Especially, do not let the women and daughters of your house go out alone. Don’t know how much truth there is in this video being attributed to Delhi AIIMS.” (English Translation)

Fact Check :

The DFRAC team investigated the viral video and found that it is not an authentic video from Delhi AIIMS but an AI-generated video. After analyzing the footage, AI expert Kumar Aniket also confirmed that the video is not real and was created using Artificial Intelligence.

To investigate the viral video, our team first examined the footage closely. We found several elements characteristic of AI-generated videos. For instance, the body in the middle suddenly changes direction. Additionally, a clear discrepancy can be seen in the shadows. Furthermore, we noted that the video frame displays a camera identification (Camera ID) labeled “CAM 2 MORGUE ROOM,” presenting it as CCTV footage. However, most authentic CCTV recordings feature a date and time (timestamp) as an on-screen overlay alongside the camera ID. The complete absence of a timestamp in this video makes independent verification of the recording time and its authenticity difficult.

Following this, our team analyzed the viral video using the AI detection tools Deepfake-O-Meter and detectvideo.ai. The results from both tools indicated that the video is AI-generated. On Deepfake-O-Meter, the AVSRDD (2025) analysis showed that the viral video is 99.9% AI-generated. Meanwhile, the detectvideo.ai analysis produced the following results: Face signals 52%, Motion signals 91%, Texture signals 68%, Source signals 78%, and Compression signals 65%.

We searched Google using the keywords “video of walking dead bodies in Delhi AIIMS mortuary goes viral,” but did not find any reports published by reliable media organizations. Had such an incident of dead bodies walking occurred at Delhi AIIMS, it would almost certainly have been widely reported by the country’s major news outlets.

Our team contacted AI expert Kumar Aniket for a more detailed analysis of the viral video. After examining the footage, Aniket shared the following observations:

1. Visual Structure and Unnatural Movements

In the video, bodies covered in white sheets are seen suddenly sitting up and lying down. At first glance, it appears to be CCTV footage, but frame-by-frame analysis reveals that the movements are not natural. The way the body rises and bends, as well as the behavior of the sheet, appears overly smooth and unnatural.

2. Inconsistencies in the Physics of the Sheet and Body

At multiple points in the video, the fabric of the sheet does not react according to the actual shape of the body. The shape of the sheet changes without a clear physical structure, and the fabric along the edges behaves inconsistently with real-world physics.

3. Frame Stability and Object Distortion

During the analysis, slight distortions were also observed along the edges of the body and the sheet in several frames. The shape of the objects changes subtly, and their boundaries do not remain completely stable during movement. Such visual inconsistencies are commonly seen in AI-generated videos.

Conclusion:

It is clear from the DFRAC fact check that the video being shared on social media is AI-generated. Therefore, the claim made by users is misleading.
