Misleading claim alleging no Uyghur genocide goes viral. Discover the Truth here
A claim has recently surfaced on social media platform X(formerly Twitter) alleging that there is no Uyghur genocide & never has been. Moreover, it is just CIA propaganda. Many users have shared the claim on X.
Prominent fake news peddler Jackson Hinkle took to X and wrote: “There is no Uyghur genocide. Never has been. Just CIA propaganda”

Fact-Check
The DFRAC team investigated the above-shared claim and found it misleading.
In our probe, we came across several reports refuting this claim. Reports from human rights organizations such as Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have comprehensibly explained the repression of Muslims in Xinjiang.
The report by Amnesty International has stated that Uyghurs, Kazakhs, and other predominantly Muslim ethnic minorities in China’s Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region have faced systematic state-organized mass imprisonment, torture, and persecution amounting to crimes against humanity.

In addition, Human Rights Watch‘s report cited that the oppression of Turkic Muslims has reached unprecedented levels in recent years. As many as a million people have been arbitrarily detained in 300 to 400 facilities which include political education camps, pretrial detention centers, and prisons. They are subjected to torture and other ill-treatment, cultural and political indoctrination, and forced labor. The Chinese authorities impose on Turkic Muslims a pervasive system of mass surveillance, controls on movement, arbitrary arrest and enforced disappearance, cultural and religious erasure, and family separation.
Conclusion
It is evident from DFRAC’s fact-check that the above-shared claim alleging that there is no Uyghur genocide is completely misleading. Various outlets have reported systematic repression, restrictions on religion, forced labor, mass internment camps, forced sterilization, and other human rights abuses targeting Uyghurs in China.
