Fact Check
We investigated the viral video by taking keyframes and using reverse search image. During the process, we found the same video posted on Times Now’s YouTube, dated November 8, 2016, with the caption, “PM Modi BANS Rs 500 And 1000 Notes From 9th November.”
The caption of the video reads, “In his address to the nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes won’t be legal tender from tonight.”
We also checked media reports and official government websites for any announcement about new Rs 500 and Rs 2000 notes being released in 2025 but found no evidence. No official declaration regarding the release of such notes has been made.
According to an RBI press release dated December 2, 98.08% of ₹2000 notes have been returned, leaving ₹6839 crore worth of these banknotes still in circulation. The RBI also confirmed that ₹2000 notes continue to remain legal tender.
Conclusion
Thus from the fact check it is evident that the viral claim is misleading. There has been no official announcement regarding the release of new currency notes, and the video being circulated is from the 2016 demonetization event.
