#HijabRow gaining new attraction on Twitter, dividing the nation into two different teams, where on one side people are supporting it and on the other side people are against it. Not only the common people have been involved in this, but famous people like Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, general secretary of Indian National Congress, Noble laureate Malala Yousafazi, Richa Chada an Indian actress, etc. too have made hay while the sun shines. Pakistan’s presence too in this issue is nothing but fuel to the already burning fire.
Why #HijabRow is trending?
It all started with a group of Muslim girls who were not allowed to enter the college at Udupi, Karnataka wearing a hijab. These girls are arguing that wearing the hijab is a part of their fundamental right to practice religion. Later this spread to other parts of the state with Hindu students too responding by turning up in saffron shawls.
Multiple Angles To #HijabRow
Many opportunists have come into play with #HijabRow and try to give it an angle from their motive and try to mislead people from the real scenario.
- Some politicians and journalists made it an issue of women empowerment, stating that it is right of every girl to wear whatever she wants to wear under the #ladkihoonladsaktihoon started by Priyanka Gandhi.
- Some are giving it a Hindu-Muslim angle, as they say if hijab will be allowed to Muslim girls the Hindus shall too be allowed to wear a saffron shawl. Many tweets and debates are going on this topic too under hashtags #saffronshawls.
- It seems like now the country is divided into different colors battle as #blueshawls has also come into play with Dalits supporting the Muslim women to wear hijab.
- Some gave it a politically motivated angle as they say this is started to bring another unrest in India after CAA and Farmers protests.
