Fact Check: Video from Bihar Goes Viral with False Claim of a TMC Woman Worker’s ‘Injury Drama’ in Bengal

Fact Check en Featured Misleading

A video is going viral on social media, claiming to show a female worker of the Trinamool Congress (TMC). In the video, a woman with a bandage on her head is seen speaking to the media and describing an incident. Meanwhile, some women present there pull off the bandage, leading to a scuffle. Users sharing the video claim that the TMC worker was faking her injury and that BJP women workers exposed her act.

Sharing the video, an Instagram user wrote, “Mamata’s Bangladeshi daily wager was lying before the media with a fake injury. The public has exposed the truth.”( English Translation)

Sharing this video on X, a user wrote: “A TMC member told a news reporter that BJP women had bitten her. After this, a local resident proved her wound to be fake in front of the camera. Ekta Kapoor should cast TMC workers in her serials.

Fact Check:

The DFRAC team’s investigation found that the viral video does not feature any female TMC worker from West Bengal. Instead, the video shows a dispute between hospital staff and a patient’s relatives in Muzaffarpur district, Bihar. During the investigation, we noticed that “Maurya Dhwaj Express” was written on the viral video. Following this, our team searched for “Maurya Dhwaj Express” on Google and found the same video posted on the Maurya Dhwaj Express Facebook page, along with information stating: “The Muzaffarpur video is being misleadingly circulated as an incident from Bengal, and false claims are being spread.”

In addition, another video of the same incident was found on the Maurya Dhwaj Express Facebook page, posted on April 28. It stated: “After a patient’s relative created a ruckus at SKMCH, the nursing staff shut down work in the emergency ward.” In reality, a dispute had broken out between hospital staff and a patient’s relatives at Shri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) in Muzaffarpur, which later led to a physical altercation between both parties.

For further verification, our team contacted a journalist from Maurya Dhwaj Express. He confirmed that the viral video is not from West Bengal but from an incident in Muzaffarpur, Bihar. He also denied any TMC or BJP angle in the incident.

Conclusion:

DFRAC’s fact-check clearly shows that the viral video circulating on social media is not related to a female TMC worker in West Bengal. The video actually depicts a dispute between hospital staff and a patient’s relatives in Muzaffarpur, Bihar. Therefore, the claim being shared by users is misleading.
