Fact Check: Old video of Wildfire in Chile falsely shared as footage of Pakistan strike on Amritsar

A video is going viral on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that shows fire in a forest region. The user claims Pakistan strikes on Amritsar in India. However, it is from Wildfire in Chile.
Pakistan (@Shamii_awan1) shared this video on May 8, 2025.
A user has shared the video with a caption saying, “Pakistan strikes military base in Amritsar. Numerous casualties reported, with several critically injured. #IndiaPakistanWar #OperationSindoor #Pakistan #Amritsar #Sialkot”
Another user named HANUMAN (@Hanuman231) has shared the same video with the same caption.
Fact Check
To investigate the viral video, the DFRAC conducted a reverse image search of the key frames from the viral video. This led our team to videos uploaded on social media platforms.
Acción Ciudadana Chile uploaded the same video on February 4, 2024 on Facebook.
This video is also uploaded on X profile of Acción Ciudadana Chile (@chile_accion). The user had published the video on February 4, 2024. The user has also shared a caption with the video, “INCENDIO REGIÓN DE VALPARAÍSO Achupallas, Viñs del Mar”. It rough translation is “FIRE IN THE VALPARAÍSO REGION Achupallas, Viña del Mar”
After knowing about the Fire in the Valparaiso Region. Our team conducted a keyword search with relevant keywords. This led us to news reports about the Wildfires that broke out in Chile’s coastal hills.
A report published by New York Times on February 4, 2024 confirms about the wildfire in Chile.
Thousands of homes were caught in fire which swept through the coastal hills toward the resort of Viña del Mar.
Many came in for vacation in Viña del Mar which is in the country’s Valparaíso region.
Another news report stated about the devastating wildfires in Chile’s Valparaíso region, specifically the coastal beach city of Viña del Mar.
Conclusion
Therefore, it is clear from the fact check that the claim made on viral video is misleading. The video originally depicts the wildfire in Chile’s Valparaíso region, specifically the coastal beach city of Viña del Mar.
This video is not of the Pakistan fire strike on India’s Amritsar.
