Fact check: Was a saffron flag hoisted on a mosque in Gangapur on Ram Navami?
On the occasion Ram Navami, disputes and clashes between two communities have been reported in many cities across the country. Several videos are also going viral on social media, where allegations are being made against different communities. One video being shared claims to show a mosque in Rajasthan’s Gangapur with a saffron flag on it.
Sharing the video, a verified user named Mir Faisal wrote that the video is from Bijnabhyla, Gangapur, Rajasthan, where a saffron flag was hoisted on a mosque during a Ram Navami procession.
Another user shared the video claiming it is from Gangapur and demanded action from Rajasthan police and government.
To verify the viral video, the DFRAC team converted the video into multiple frames and did a reverse search. We found a clarification from Gangapur Police (@sgnrpolice) about the video. The police clarified that a saffron flag was not hoisted on any mosque in Gangapur, but at someone’s house. The police have also arrested two people on charges of spreading fake news.
