Fact-Check
The DFRAC team investigated the shared claim by searching some keywords on Google. Meanwhile, the team found some media reports in this context.
Media Reports from Jagran, Hindustan Times and ABP live
According to a media report by ABP News published on 28 Feb 2024, the farmers’ agitation has caused the shortage of diesel and cylinder gas in Punjab, News agency ANI gave this information quoting ministry sources. According to sources, the supply of diesel and LPG gas in Punjab has been badly affected due to road jams and security reasons.
Furthermore, another report by Jagran dated 28 Feb 2024 mentioned: “In response to the farmers’ agitation, petroleum dealers across Punjab announced a statewide shutdown of petrol pumps and fuel stations on February 22. This move came amid calls for an increase in their commission. The announcement triggered panic buying, leading to long queues outside fuel stations in cities like Ludhiana. Moreover, the dealers decided not to purchase fuel from oil companies on February 15 as part of their protest, further adding the cause to the shortage of fuel across the state.”
In addition, a media report by Hindustan Times also cited similar facts concerning the shortage of diesel and cylinder gas in Punjab amid ongoing Farmers’ protests.
Conclusion
It is evident from DFRAC’s Fact-Check that the Indian government did not stop the supply of diesel and gas to Punjab during the ongoing crisis.
Hence, the claim made by the Pak-based handle is false and misleading
