Did Rahul Gandhi gangrape with foreign friends? Read - Fact Check

On social media sites, there is a claim being made about Congress leader Rahul Gandhi that he allegedly gang-raped Sukanya, daughter of party worker Balram Singh, with his two friends from Italy and two from England. At that time, there was a Samajwadi Party government in Uttar Pradesh and Mulayam Singh Yadav was the Chief Minister. When the matter reached the court, the entire family disappeared, and there has been no information about them till date.

Fact Check:

To know the reality of the viral claim, the DFRAC team searched for some keywords on Google. During this search, we found several media reports. According to a news report published by Dainik Bhaskar, Kishor Samrite, a former MLA, filed a public interest petition in the Allahabad High Court in 2010, accusing Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi of kidnapping and raping a girl from Amethi. He claimed that his party’s Supreme leader urged him to file a petition against Rahul. However, the High Court dismissed the petition and imposed a heavy fine of Rs. 50 lakh on him for making false charges. The CBI was also ordered to investigate Rahul’s involvement in the case. But Samrite challenged the order in the Supreme Court.

According to a report in Aaj Tak, the Supreme Court dismissed the allegation that Rahul Gandhi had locked up a girl against her will. The police found no evidence to support the claims against him. The investigation found that the family mentioned by Kishor Samrite did not exist, and no one knew their whereabouts. No evidence was found against Rahul Gandhi. The Supreme Court imposed a fine of Rs. 10 lakh on the petitioner for misusing the court.

Media reports suggest that Balram Singh had sold his house and moved to another place. His wife and daughter’s names were presented incorrectly. His wife was Sushila Devi, and his eldest daughter was Kirti Singh. They informed the media that some people claiming to be media persons had visited their house, showing pictures of Sukanya Devi, and asked if she was their daughter. They told them that she was not their daughter but someone else.

It is noteworthy that this claim has been made earlier also. This claim was made in October 2022.

Conclusion:

DFRAC’s fact-check confirms that the viral claim is false. These accusations were politically motivated and were not proven in court. The petitioner, SP MLA Kishor Samrite, himself admitted that he filed the petition at the behest of party leadership.
