An image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, standing next to a bride like woman, is getting viral on social media. Sharing the picture, the netizens are claiming the woman standing next to him is Jashodaben Narendra Modi, the wife of Mr Modi.
A user on Twitter shared the picture rather sarcastically and writes: “This man is looking so happy, it means that he must not have got married forcibly!!!” (English Translation)
Fact Check:
To investigate the viral picture, the DFRAC team did a reverse image search and found that the picture shared by Hemant Chapatwala’s son, Keyur Hemant Chapatwala, on Facebook. He shared the same image on 14 April 2014, with the caption that reads: “Rare Picture of Modiji attending Marriage of My Sister Alpa way back in 1994. Needed to clarify due to false messages & rumors being spread intensely in social media about Shri Narendra Modiji in this Pic (sic)”
This was shared by him in the year 2014 when this picture was circulated with misleading information that claimed the woman standing next to Narendra Modi as Jashodaben Modi.
Conclusion:
With the investigation the team identified the woman as Alpaben, daughter of the former Education Minister of Gujarat, Hemant Chapatwala. Hence, the claim of netizens about viral picture is misleading.
