A user on Facebook Mohamed Bayash writes, “TN hates you and your party ideology..#GoBackModi #GoBackFacistModi.”
As such images, of graffiti were already getting viral initially from different states of the country like Bihar. We reverse searched the image to know its authenticity. We at DFRAC found the graffiti is not from Chennai or Bihar. It is the image from the Anti-CAA protest in Kolkata in January 2020.
The news and the image of the graffiti are on many local news sites of Kolkata like eisamay.com. the headline was, “ Assamese students march in city, researchers in London.”(translates bengali)
The news was also covered by India today. The headline was, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi leaves Kolkata, protesters shift venue.”
Therefore the image of graffiti is getting viral with the misleading claim. As the image is not from recent times but is from year 2020.
