A video is being shared on social media with the claim that a Muslim man was beaten by Hindu youths in India. In the viral video, a Muslim man can be seen tied to a tree with a rope, while several youths slap him.
While sharing this video, a user named 🇵🇸🇵🇸 🇹🇷 🇵🇸🇵🇸 wrote a caption in Turkish, the Hindi translation of which is, “Oh humanity, wake up! In India, some extremist Hindus are oppressing and persecuting Muslims. Let us spread this message around the world so that our voice is heard and this inhumane barbarity can be stopped.”
Another user also shared this video as being from India with a caption in Turkish. The user wrote, “India oppresses Muslims. He saw there’s no voice for Palestine or East Turkestan, so he started too—if this continues, there won’t be a single Muslim left unoppressed on the face of the earth.”

Fact Check:
The DFRAC team, during its investigation of the viral video, found that it is not a video from India, but from Bangladesh, and there is no communal angle to this incident. Bangladeshi fact checker Shohanur Rahman also stated that the viral video is indeed from Bangladesh and that the incident is not related to a communal dispute.
For the investigation, our team first conducted a reverse image search of the key frames of the video. We found that several Bangladeshi users had shared this video with captions in Bengali. On July 15, a Facebook user from the capital city of Bangladesh, Dhaka, named ১৪০০ বছর, first posted the same video and wrote, “There comes a point in a person’s life when Allah turns His face away from them.” (English Translation)
Apart from this, another Facebook user from Noakhali, Bangladesh, Nazmul official, shared the same video with a caption in Bengali. With the help of Google Translate, its Hindi translation is, “Sadly, Bangladesh is in such a bad condition. Is this the new Bangladesh? Is this my ‘Sonar Bangla’? Are these the people who represent the future of Bangladesh? We are simply living in an imaginary world. Is Bangladesh heading towards destruction with this sick generation?”
In further investigation, we found that a building visible in the viral video has the Bengali text “দঃ ভিংলা বাড়ী কেন্দ্রীয় জামে মসজিদ (South Vingla Bari Central Jame Mosque)” written on it. After this, we searched for this mosque on Google Maps. We found that this mosque is located in the Debidwar area of the Chittagong Division of Bangladesh.
We found that the building visible in the viral video, the structure of the mosque, and the writing on the wall, “দঃ ভিংলা বাড়ী কেন্দ্রীয় জামে মসজিদ”, exactly match the location shown on Google Maps. This can be seen in the graphics provided here.

Apart from this, the design made on the wall also matches the viral video, which can be seen in the graphics given below. However, we could not independently verify when the viral video was recorded and what the reason for the incident was.

For more information about the video, the DFRAC team contacted Bangladeshi fact checker Shohanur Rahman. Shohanur told us that the viral video is indeed from Bangladesh and that the incident is not related to a communal dispute.
Conclusion:
DFRAC’s fact check makes it clear that the video shared on social media is not from India. The video is from an incident in the Debidwar area of the Chittagong Division of Bangladesh. Therefore, the users’ claim is misleading.
