Fact check:

DFRAC found the claim to be fake. To verify the claim associated with the viral image, DFRAC investigated news reports related to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur. During the investigation, we did not find any news report indicating that students at IIT Kanpur had recently organized a protest against reservation.

We then proceeded with the investigation and analyzed the viral image using the AI detection tool Hive Detect. The analysis indicated that the viral image was AI-generated, with a 99.9% probability of being AI-generated.

We also analyzed the viral image using another AI detection tool, DeepAI. The analysis found that the image was AI-generated, with a 97% probability of being AI-generated. The image was also tagged as “Fake.”

Finally, we analyzed the viral image using another AI detection tool, TruthScan. The results indicated that the image was AI-generated, with a 97% probability of being AI-generated.

We also sought the opinion of AI expert Asim Sheikh, Director of SYNCSAS Technologies, regarding the viral image. He stated that clear inconsistencies can be observed in the text, faces, and body structures of the people visible in the image. These inconsistencies strongly indicate that the viral image is AI-generated.

Conclusion:

The DFRAC fact-check establishes that the claim that students protested against reservation at IIT Kanpur is fake, as the viral image being used as evidence is AI-generated.
