Students staged protests at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar in recent days, during which several videos and reels containing abusive language went viral. Around the same time, actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut made headlines after criticizing the language used during the protests. Referring to the conduct of the protesting youth and the content circulating online, she described the younger generation as the “gutter generation.”
Amid this controversy, a video has gone viral on social media showing a young woman being pushed and jostled by a crowd. Users sharing the clip claim that women assaulted Kangana Ranaut following her remarks about Gen-Z. An X user named AYODHYA WALE shared the video with the caption: “It is being heard that Gen Z is very angry with Kangana Ranaut. Today, when Kangana was travelling in her car, a group of girls surrounded her and slapped her several times.”
Another user, Satpal Yadav Samajwadi Party Noida Vidhan Sabha 61, posted: “It is being heard that the public has beaten up Kangana… BJP MPs and MLAs have started getting beaten up.”
Fact Check:
DFRAC’s investigation found that the viral claim is misleading. The video does not show Kangana Ranaut being assaulted. It actually depicts an incident involving Pranayita Das, the daughter of TMC leader Krishna Das, in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal. The editor of Jalpaiguri News, Pinaki Ranjan, also confirmed that the video has been falsely linked to Kangana Ranaut.
To verify the video, DFRAC first closely examined the footage and noticed the JDN News logo. A search for JDN News led us to the Facebook page of Jalpaiguri Digital News, where the same video had been uploaded with the caption: “Breaking News: Public outrage erupts as Krishna Das’s daughter arrives at Jalpaiguri Kotwali Police Station. #KrishnaDas”. Further investigation led us to a video uploaded on the ANI Bharat YouTube channel. The accompanying description stated: “Eggs were thrown at the car of Pranayita Das, daughter of TMC leader Krishna Das, outside a police station in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal.”
A keyword search also led us to reports published by The Telegraph Online and Millennium Post. According to The Telegraph Online, Pranayita Das, a Trinamool Congress Zilla Parishad member, was surrounded by BJP women workers when she arrived at Jalpaiguri Kotwali Police Station in compliance with a Calcutta High Court order directing her to cooperate in the investigation into post-election violence. Pranayita is the daughter of Krishna Das, the former district president of the TMC’s SC, ST, and OBC cell in Jalpaiguri. Police sources stated that both father and daughter were named in a case related to alleged attacks on BJP workers following the declaration of election results on May 4, 2026.
Similarly, Millennium Post reported that Pranayita Das appeared at Jalpaiguri Kotwali Police Station following a court directive in connection with an alleged post-election attack in which six BJP workers were reportedly injured. A group of women protesters allegedly stopped her vehicle outside the police station and threw eggs at it. As police attempted to escort her inside, tensions escalated, and some protesters allegedly pulled her hair and physically assaulted her. The same incident was also posted by the Jalpaiguri News Facebook page.
DFRAC also contacted Pinaki Ranjan, founder and editor of Jalpaiguri News. He confirmed that the incident took place in Jalpaiguri and has been misleadingly linked to Kangana Ranaut. He explained that Pranayita Das had come to the Kotwali Police Station in connection with a legal case when a crowd outside allegedly manhandled her.
Conclusion:
DFRAC’s fact check confirms that the viral claim is misleading. The video does not show Kangana Ranaut being assaulted. Instead, it depicts an incident involving Pranayita Das, daughter of TMC leader Krishna Das, outside Jalpaiguri Kotwali Police Station in West Bengal. Therefore, the viral claim linking the video to Kangana Ranaut is false.
