A video circulating on social media shows an injured woman crying while speaking to her father over the phone about being assaulted. Users are falsely linking the video to the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, claiming that the woman was beaten after allegedly using abusive language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother during the protest.
While sharing the video, an X user named Arun Yadav wrote, “Aley… le… le… le… Did you ask your father before abusing Modiji and his late mother?”(English Translation)
Another user, Kamal Narayan Mishra, shared the same video with the caption, “Didi got scared… Aley Aley Didi got scared. Did you ask your father before abusing Modiji and his late mother?”(English Translation)
Several other users have circulated the video with similar claims. Some have also alleged that the woman was assaulted by members of the Bajrang Dal, which can be seen here and here.
Fact Check:
DFRAC investigated the viral video and found the claim to be misleading. Our investigation revealed that the video is actually from a dispute between a husband and wife at the Family Court in Varanasi. The Varanasi Cantt Police have also dismissed the viral claim as false.
To verify the video, DFRAC first extracted keyframes and conducted a reverse image search using Google Lens. This led us to a video uploaded on the News18 India YouTube channel on July 18, carrying the caption: “Chaos at Varanasi Court! Wife Attacked.”
Further keyword searches led us to multiple media reports published by Amar Ujala, Dainik Jagran, and Prabhat Khabar. According to Dainik Jagran, a woman was allegedly assaulted by her husband and had her gold chain snatched inside the Family Court premises in the Cantt police station area of Varanasi. The victim filed a police complaint, following which an FIR was registered and an investigation was initiated.(English Translation)
Amar Ujala reported that, ‘according to the police, Archana Mishra, a resident of Khargupur in Jansa police station area, had reached the Principal Family Court around 11:45 a.m. to attend the hearing of her case. Her husband, Akhand Pratap Upadhyay, allegedly abused her, made objectionable remarks about her character, physically assaulted her, and snatched her gold chain and pendant during the incident.Similarly, Prabhat Khabar reported that the altercation took place inside the Family Court premises when Archana Mishra arrived for her court proceedings. She alleged that her husband, a resident of Gadkhara in the Sindhora police station area, was already present there and began abusing and assaulting her shortly after she arrived ‘.( English Translation)

As part of its verification, DFRAC also contacted the Varanasi Cantt Police. The police categorically denied any connection between the incident and the CJP protest, confirming that the viral claim is misleading.
Conclusion:
DFRAC’s fact check confirms that the viral claim is misleading. The video is from a domestic dispute between a husband and wife at the Family Court in Varanasi and has no connection whatsoever with the CJP protest at Jantar Mantar, Delhi.
