Fact Check
During the investigation, DFRAC found that the claim was false. We found a similar video on the official instagram handle of Priyanka Gandhi uploaded on 11 May, 2024 with the caption Nandurbar, Maharashtra.
Furthermore, we also found multiple media reports regarding Priyanka Gandhi rally in Nandurbar, Maharashtra. According to ‘Times of India’ report published on 11 May, 2024 “Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, a Congress leader, criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a rally in Nandurbar, Maharashtra. She accused him of delivering “hollow talk” in his election speeches and urged him to learn courage and determination from former PM Indira Gandhi. Gandhi accused PM of disrespecting the people of Maharashtra and tribal communities, citing instances like the exclusion of President Droupadi Murmu from the Ram temple consecration ceremony.”
Moreover, we found a report from ‘Indian express’ published on 16 May, 2024 stating “at a rally in Nandurbar, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi pitched her brother Rahul as the real challenger to PM Modi, asking the audience, ‘Do you want a fearless leader who speaks the truth… or a leader who goes on lying’?”.
Conclusion
It is evident from the DFRAC’s fact check that the huge crowd from the rally of Priyanka Gandhi was not from Wayanad but from Nandurbar, Maharashtra and the video dates back to May, 2024. Therefore, the claim of social media users is misleading.
