Fake Claim of Indian Intelligence links in Trump assassination attempt goes viral

The Recent assassination attempt on the Former US President Donald Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania  ahead of US president Elections has sparked a wave of misinformation on social media platforms. Amid this, we also came across one such claim made by a pak-based handle on X(formerly Twitter) falsely asserting that the CIA uncovered shocking Indian Intelligence links in this recent incident.


Account with the username @PSYWAROPS posted some images from the incident and wrote: “#BREAKING NEWS CIA uncovers Indian Intelligence Links in Trump Assassination Attempt.

In addition, one of the points from the post stated that “In the inỉtial phase of the investỉgation, the CIA discovered that Crooks had recently been receỉving cỉpher texts frøm an indỉvidual named Ashwin Malhotra. Further research by the CIA revealed that Malhotra is cønnected to R&AW, lndỉa’s inteIIỉgence agency. Addỉtionally, the AR-15 rỉfle used ỉn the attack was regỉstered to Ram Prakash, a U.S. cỉtizen”

 To investigate this claim, the DFRAC team thoroughly examined the latest media reports in this regard. No such information has come to light. Moreover, no updates have been released from the authorities of both countries in support of the above claim.

It is evident from DFRAC fact-check that the claim asserting Indian Intelligence links in the mishap of Trump assassination attempt has been misleadingly shared on X since there is no information available online backing the above claim.
