Several videos are being shared on social media websites claiming that after Congress’ victory in Karnataka, the Pakistani flag was hoisted.
On May 15, Twitter user Nitin Mishra tweeted a video claiming that “this is the flag of Pakistan, not the flag of Islam. The flag of Islam is the ‘Tawheed’ flag. @ zoo_bear and those who are claiming it as Islamic flag since yesterday should stop calling it that. Welcome to Karnataka, Tippu Sultan’s commemoration will now happen, Congress rules”.

Another user MJ also tweeted two videos claiming that “scenes immediately after Congress’ victory in Karnataka: ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ slogans raised in front of police, the flag of Pakistan was waved in Belgaum. Pakistan’s happy index has risen to 50 in the rating. Congress also burst firecrackers. No pollution or pet animal is afraid?”

Fact-Check:
To know the authenticity of the flag seen in the aforementioned video, the DFRAC team scrutinized the video attentively and discovered that the video shows four flags altogether with ‘Om’ written in saffron, Baba Saheb Ambedkar’s picture with blue, green with moon stars and one with the picture of a candidate.
The fundamental difference between the Pakistani and Islamic flags is that the flag of Pakistan has a white stripe whereas an Islamic flag does not. The collages given below clearly indicate the difference between the two flags.
Conclusion:
DFRAC’s fact-check demonstrates that the viral videos claiming Pakistani flags were hoisted after Congress’ victory in Karnataka are misleading.
