A video is rapidly going viral on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), in which a young man can be seen assaulting an elderly man. The viral video is being claimed to be from Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Along with the video, it is being claimed that a son beat up his father because he allegedly did something “indecent” with his daughter-in-law. In some posts, the video has also been circulated by linking it to a specific religion.
Verified user Mayank Upadhyay shared the viral video on X and wrote a post using derogatory language targeting a particular religion.

Meanwhile, another verified user, Ranjana Singh, wrote in reference to the viral video, “Look, the old man is being beaten up; he must have done some good deed… after all, he has kept a Noor (beard).”

Fact Check:

To investigate the claim made alongside the viral video, DFRAC converted the video into keyframes and conducted a reverse image search. During this process, we found a similar video posted by the news portal UP Tak on X on June 9, 2026. Providing details about the incident, UP Tak stated: “A shocking video that shames relationships has gone viral in Saharanpur. CCTV footage shows a son slapping, punching, and grabbing his elderly father by the collar and shaking him. After the video went viral, the police took the accused into custody. Initial investigation revealed that the incident stemmed from a property dispute.

Upon further investigation, we also found a report by NDTV India related to the video. Published on June 9, 2026, the report stated that the incident took place in Manakmau village under the Kutubsher police station area of Saharanpur district. The assault by the son was captured on CCTV footage, which later went viral on social media. The report said that the elderly man, Haji Tehseen, was assaulted by his son, Gulfishan, in the middle of the road. The son allegedly slapped his father and also attempted to strangle him. According to reports, an argument broke out between the father and son over a domestic dispute, after which the son assaulted his father. Following the circulation of the video, the police took immediate cognisance of the matter, detained the accused, and initiated further investigation.

Additionally, Saharanpur Police informed DFRAC that the accused was arrested by the Kutubsher police station and produced before the court. In a conversation with DFRAC, Inspector Santosh Singh of Kutubsher police station stated that the youth involved in the assault was mentally disturbed. He further said that a compromise had since been reached between the father and son. However, the police still took action against the youth for disturbing public peace.
Conclusion:
The fact-check establishes that the claim being circulated with the viral video is misleading. The actual incident involved an assault between a father and son in Saharanpur arising from a domestic and property dispute. Social media users have shared the video with false context and misleading communal claims.
