Fact Check: Reports confirm only exchange of Fire in Rajouri, not soldier casualties

Fact Check en

Pakistan-based users claimed that terrorists ambushed an Indian Army SOG unit patrol in Rajouri, Kashmir, killing six soldiers and four CRPF personnel who arrived for rescue. Multiple users have shared the claim, which can be viewed here and here.

Fact Check

This claim is misleading. According to a report by India Today, four terrorists were believed to be trapped during a gunfight with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district. The encounter began when terrorists opened fire on a Special Operations Group (SOG) team conducting a search operation. Security forces retaliated, and additional personnel were deployed to the snow-covered area. No casualties or injuries have been reported so far.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu also confirmed via X (Twitter): “Exchange of fire took place between terrorists and the SOG team in the Beeranthub area, PS Kandi, Rajouri. Joint parties of the Police, Army, and CRPF have rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area.”

Furthermore, the image used in the claim is from 2013, where Army soldiers honoured their colleague killed in the LOC Ambush.

Conclusion

The viral claim about the killing of 10 Indian security personnel in Rajouri is false. Verified reports indicate only an ongoing exchange of fire, with no confirmed casualties at the time of reporting.
