A recent post on social media claiming “Russia to ban Indian-made food items in the country for poor quality” was circulated online.

Several unverified posts on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram have circulated the claim over the past few days. @NavCom24, @datomzaki and A.Alex Bagalue HDD .PhD on Instagram.

Fact Check

Upon investigation, we found the claim to be Fake. A Russian-language search returns no official statements from the Russian Ministry of Agriculture, Customs Service, TASS, or Interfax regarding any ban.

Furthermore, we looked into media reports about the deal where a news article by Prensa Latina, dated 12 February 2025, mentioned that  Agricultural and food trade between India and Russia grew by more than 60 percent in the last year and is expected to increase in the recent period, according to a report.

Thus, from the fact check, it is evident that the viral claim is Fake. Given the absence of any official decree or acknowledgement by Russian authorities and substantial evidence of the growing Indo-Russian food trade, the social media claim that Russia is banning Indian-made food items for “poor quality” is fake.
