DFRAC team investigated Rahul Gandhi’s statement. Several media reports revealed that Rahul Gandhi’s statement is in the context when several words were removed from his speech on the no-confidence motion in Parliament. According to a report by NDTV, “Bharat Mata is now an unparliamentary word in India, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said today while replying to questions on deleting parts of his speech yesterday. Rahul Gandhi spoke to reporters while coming out of Parliament today. He further said, “Apparently Bharat Mata is now an unparliamentary word in India.”
Furthermore, in a report of Indian Express, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi said that words like Bharat Mata were not removed from Rahul Gandhi’s statement.
DFRAC’s Fact-Check clears that the claim being made about Rahul Gandhi is misleading. Rahul Gandhi’s statement was in reference to words omitted from his speech during the no-confidence motion in Parliament. He did not give any statement claiming that Bharat Mata has now become an unparliamentary word in India.
