Claim
A claim has recently surfaced on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) alleging that an Indian soldier who hailed from Rajasthan committed suicide while on duty in Jammu & Kashmir’s Kishtwar district. Notably, the claim has been shared by Pak-based handles on X.
An account by the name Kashmir English posted an image showing soldiers and wrote: “Indian soldier Vijay Kumar (27), a resident of Rajasthan, committed suicide while on duty in Kishtwar district, Jammu & Kashmir.”

Fact Check
The DFRAC team investigated this claim and found it to be manipulated.
To investigate this claim, we conducted a keyword search in this regard.
This led us to some of the latest media reports published by The Global Kashmir,Kashmir Life and Greater Kashmir. These reports stated that an army soldier was killed on Sunday in an accidental fire in Kishtwar district. Official sources said that an army soldier was found dead early this morning while on duty. He was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. He has been identified as Vijay Kumar (27) resident of Junjhunu Rajasthan. As per the initial reports cause of the death is due to accidental discharge of fire.

Apparently, the reports did not mention that the Indian Soldier had committed suicide.
Conclusion
It is clear from DFRAC’s fact-check that the above-shared claim alleging that an Indian soldier who hailed from Rajasthan has died by suicide while on duty in Jammu & Kashmir’s Kishtwar district seems to be manipulated. The latest reports cited that he died due to an accidental firing, not suicide.
