On social media, a video of a toll plaza has gone viral which shows a group of people creating a ruckus and breaking down a barricade at a toll plaza. While sharing the video, users claim that it is from India.

Moreover, several users shared this video and made similar claims. The link can be seen here, here and here
Fact Check
During the investigation, DFRAC found that the claim was false. We found multiple media reports carrying similar footage of the viral video. According to a report by Pnsnews24 published on September 18, 2024, “An incident occurred at the Kuril Toll Plaza of the Dhaka Elevated Expressway, where workers were beaten up, and a pickup truck with passengers was forced to cross the barrier. The incident occurred at around 9:50 am on Wednesday (September 18).”

Furthermore, we also found a report from Dhaka Tribune published on September 18, 2024, which states, “The video shows a group of 30-40 people wearing caps (tupi) and pajama-punjabis standing in front of the toll plaza in a pickup van. When the toll plaza employees tried to stop them, a verbal altercation ensued. At one point, an individual got out of the pickup van and, during an argument with a person at the toll booth, broke down the plaza’s barricade.”

Moreover, we also found a similar video on the YouTube channel of SOMOY TV uploaded on September 18, 2024, with the description: “A young man got into an argument with a toll collector, and at one point, he broke the barricade to stop vehicles.”
Conclusion
It is evident from DFRAC’s fact check that the viral video is from Dhaka, Bangladesh, and dates back to September 2024, not from India. Therefore, the claim made by social media users is misleading.
