False claim alleging 5 Indian-backed terrorists arrested by Bangladesh Army goes viral
A claim has recently surfaced on social media platform X(formerly Twitter) stating that the Bangladesh Army has arrested 5 Indian-backed terrorists who have tried to enter Bangladesh via Mizoram. Rifles and ammunition were recovered. Several handles shared this claim on X including a Pak-based handle.
An X handle named Tactical Tribune, better known for spreading misinformation posted some images and wrote: “Bangladesh Army arrested 5 Indian-backed terrorists who were trying to enter Bangladesh via Mizoram. Rifles and ammunition recovered. Bangladesh military on High Alert”.

Another handle named South Asian Chronicles also shared this claim asserting similar facts.

Fact-Check
The DFRAC team investigated this claim and found it to be false.
We conducted a keyword search on Google related to the above viral claim leading us to the latest reports published by various media outlets such as NDTV, Deccan Herald, India TV and Eleven Myanmar.

The reports cited that Mizoram Police have arrested 5 individuals, including a leader of the Myanmar-based Chin National Front (CNF), during a major operation that resulted in the largest arms seizure in the state’s history.
The operation was conducted in collaboration on the outskirts of Saithah village, under the jurisdiction of West Phaileng Police Station in Mamit district. Preliminary investigations revealed that the weapons were intended for an arms trade between the CNF and the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF-P), a rebel group operating in Bangladesh’s Chittagong Hill Tracts.
Not only this, but a tweet carrying a press release on the handle of Mizoram Police also confirmed this news.

The press release stated: “In a major operation, the Mizoram Police, in partnership with a sister Intelligence Agency, has achieved a huge seizure of arms and ammunition in the outskirts of Saithah village within the jurisdiction of West Phaileng Police Station, Mamit District. Five accused have been arrested in connection with this arms seizure. Among those detained is a notable leader of the Chin National Front (CNF), an insurgent group based in Myanmar. The arrest of such a high-profile individual is a significant achievement in counter-insurgency operations in the state of Mizoram”.
Conclusion
DFRAC’s Fact-Check clearly shows that the above-shared claim that the Bangladesh Army has arrested 5 Indian-backed terrorists who have tried to enter Bangladesh via Mizoram is misleading indeed. In fact, 5 individuals including a leader of the Myanmar-based Chin National Front (CNF) have been arrested by Mizoram Police during a major operation.
