A pakistan-based handle has claimed that India’s decision to block visas for Bangladeshi citizens is a blatant violation of human rights, exposing its arrogance and failed attempts at regional dominance
An X handle named Kashmir English posted an image of PM Modi and wrote: “India’s decision to block visas for Bangladesh citizens is a blatant violation of human rights, exposing its arrogance and failed attempts at regional dominance.
Fact-Check
The DFRAC team investigated the claim and found it to be false.
A keyword research in this regard led us to reports from ANI and The Economic Times dated Aug 30, 2024. The reports cited the statement of MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal’s who asserted in a weekly media briefing that “We are issuing visas in limited manner for medical, emergency purposes. Once the situation becomes normal, law and order is restored, then we will begin our full-fledged operations of visa”.
Additonally, a shorts video on the YouTube channel HWEnglish carried the statement given by MEA spokesperson.
A report from Business Standard published in Nov 2024 also stated that the Indian government is allowing only emergency visas to Bangladesh nationals
Evidently, India’s move to issue visas for medical and emergency purposes implies no violations of human rights by the Indian authorities for Bangladeshi Nationals.
Conclusion
DFRAC’s fact-check clearly shows that the above-shared claim has been misleadingly shared on X. Indian authorities issue visas for Medical and emergency purposes indicating that human rights are not violated regarding Bangladeshi Nationals.
