An old video from China Explosion falsely linked with Tel Aviv. Here’s the truth
On social media, a video of an explosion has gone viral. While sharing the video users claim that “Huge explosion in Tel Aviv at Mossad headquarters”.
Moreover, several users shared this video and made similar claims. The link can be seen here, here and here
Fact Check
During the investigation, DFRAC found that the claim was false. We found a similar video on the YouTube channel of ‘BBC News’ uploaded on 14 Aug, 2015 with the description “Footage of two massive explosions in the Chinese city of Tianjin, taken by a stunned eyewitness, captured the fear and terror of those who saw what happened. Dozens of people died and hundreds were injured when a warehouse owned by a company specialising in handling hazardous goods caught fire and exploded”.
Moreover, Hong Kong Free Press also uploaded the video to YouTube on 16 Aug, 2015 with the description “First-hand footage of the blasts in Tianjin’s Binhai New Area on 12 August, 2015”.
Furthermore, we also found a report from ‘The Guardian’ published on 15 Aug,2015 stating “A video filmed by stunned eyewitness, Dan Van Duren, captures the moment successive huge blasts tore through an industrial area in the Chinese port city of Tianjin”.
Conclusion
It is evident from the DFRAC’s fact check that the viral video is from 2015 showing massive explosions in the Chinese city of Tianjin, not in Mossad headquarters, Tel Aviv. Therefore, the claim of social media users is misleading.
