Bihar has been battling severe floods for a couple of weeks affecting around 1.5 million people. Thousands of residents facing shortages of relief materials. The Indian Air Force (IAF) has carried out multiple rescue and relief operations in the areas that the floods have ravaged. Amid this, a pak-based handle posted a video on the social media platform X(formerly Twitter). It claimed that an Indian Air Force helicopter crashed in Bihar and people looted the wreckage instead of helping. The pilot and co-pilot died from their injuries.
Taking to X, Psywar Bureau posted a video carrying the Logo of NDTV and wrote: “In Bihar, Indỉạ, an Indian Air Force helicopter crashed, and people looted the wreckage instead of helping. The pilot and co-pilot died from their injuries”
Fact-check
To determine the authenticity of the claim made through the above-shared video, the DFRAC team converted this video into some keyframes and reverse-searched them on Google. We discovered the same video posted on NDTV’s official X account and noted that “people looted the wreckage instead of helping. The pilot and co-pilot died from their injuries” have not been mentioned in the caption.
Instead, the video’s caption read: “Army helicopter crashes in Bihar. Helicopter crashes while distributing relief packets in Desi Bazaar of Aurai block of Muzaffarpur”
Furthermore, a Google keyword search in this regard led us to several reports published by numerous media outlets such as Republic, Indiatv, and News18India published on October 2, 2023. According to reports, the helicopter made an emergency landing in a water-logged area in Aurai block. All occupants were IAF personnel pulled out by locals when the officials reached the spot.
Moreover, no deaths have been reported in this incident.
Conclusion
It is evident from DFRAC’s fact-check that the claim made by the pak-handle is misleading. In reality, no deaths have been reported where as locals helped the occupants in this incident.
