
Video from Myanmar falsely attributed to Manipur, India
Manipur has witnessed violence once again in the past few days with drone and rocket attacks. In its aftermath, Schools in Manipur will remain shut on September 9 and 10 due to safety concerns. Amid this, misinformation has escalated on social media platforms. One such video showing a fighter shooting down a helicopter is making rounds on social media platform X (formerly twitter) with the claim that an Indian fighter helicopter was shot down by a freedom fighter in Manipur. The video has been shared by several handles including some pak handles on X.
A pak-based handle operating under the username of @ZarrarPak posted this video and wrote: “The #Indian fighter helicopter shot down by freedom fighter in #Manipur”

Furthermore, several users shared this video and made similar claims. The link can be viewed here, here and here.
Fact-Check
To check the veracity of the above viral video, the DFRAC team converted it into some keyframes and reverse-searched it on google and found that the video was from Myanmar. We found a similar video on the X handles of Big Breaking Wire & Resonant News stating that footage showing the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) shooting down a Myanmar military junta helicopter using MANPADS.

In addition, the video was also found on YouTube with similar captions.

Conclusion
It is evident from DFRAC’s fact-check that the above viral video is from Myanmar, not from Manipur, India. Hence, the claim made by users is false.
