Fact Check
The DFRAC team investigated the video using Google reverse image search and discovered an article published on the CBS News website on March 7, 2009. This article featured the same image as the one in the viral video. The article was titled “Anti-Israel protesters clash with Swedish police outside tennis match“. It further mentioned ” Dozens of anti-Israel activists clashed with police Saturday as they tried to storm a closed arena in Sweden where the home country and Israel were playing a Davis Cup tennis match. The activists hurled rocks and firecrackers at police vans as they tried to break through the barricades set up to keep protesters from the arena. Hundreds of riot police pushed them back using truncheons.”
Similar news was also published by Reuters and France 24 dated March 2009.
Taking the clue from the article, we searched for the video further and found an extended version of the video posted on the Associated Press (AP’s) Archive YouTube channel. While the video was uploaded in 2015, the description mentioned the dateline as March 8, 2009, with the description “Dozens of rock-throwing anti-Israel activists clashed with Swedish police on Saturday in an attempt to storm a closed arena where Sweden and Israel were playing a Davis Cup tennis match.”
Additionally, both AP’s and the viral videos display similarities, notably showing a man standing on a police van and vandalizing it in both clips. Hence, we found that the video was from the year 2009 and not recent.
Conclusion
Thus, from the fact check it is clear that the video is from the 2009 anti-Israeli protest against the Davis Cup tennis match & shared with a false claim of Muslims attacking Sweden Police every day. DFRAC Analysis: Misleading
