False claim of grenade attack on the Indian Army in Kashmir goes viral

A Pakistan First Twitter account (@Pak1stTeam) has become a frequent false news peddler. Once again the account shared a claim stating, “1 soldier killed and 1 injured in a Kashmiri separatist fighters attack outside headquarters of 4 Rashtriya Rifles at Sarna”.

Fact Check

We investigated the viral claim by using a Keyword search on Google. During the process, we found media reports dated 26 June 2024. According to media reports, it was an accidental grenade blast where the sepoy was handling a training grenade that exploded in his hand inside the camp at Diyani, Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir. Both sepoys were airlifted to Military Hospital Udhampur for treatment.

Further details on the soldier’s health are still awaited.

Conclusion

Thus, no attack was conducted by Kashmir separatists on Indian army soldiers. It was an accidental grenade attack and both the soldiers were airlifted to Military hospitals. No death has been reported till now. Further details are awaited.
