Taking to X(Twitter), a Pakistani media outlet named ‘Naya Pakistan’ has shared an image carrying the text: “India announces 2000km sea bridge which will connect Mumbai to Dubai” and claimed that India is going to connect Mumbai to Dubai by way of a 2000 km bridge in the sea.
Subsequently, several users shared this image on X and made similar claims.
Fact-Check
The DFRAC team investigated the above viral claim by searching some keywords on Google in this regard. We found that no such news has been published announcing the construction of such a bridge.
Upon investigating further, we discovered a tweet on an X(Twitter) account named Cyrus Dhabhar mentioning: “So we did an April Fools prank stating there will be a bridge between Bombay and Dubai. We even made up a govt agency – BHAI – Bi-Country Highway Association of India. Some media outlets have actually covered it as actual news. And I’m dying laughing”.
In addition, we also searched for the longest sea bridge in India. During this process, we came across some articles from The Economic Times and Study IQ.
As per articles, Atal Setu Bridge is the longest sea bridge in India with about 16.5 km of length over the sea & about 5.5 km of length on land. It was inaugurated by PM Modi in Mumbai on Jan 12 this year.
Conclusion
It is evident from DFRAC’s Fact-Check that the viral image claiming India announces a 2000km sea bridge that will connect Mumbai to Dubai is fake as no such news has been reported by any media outlet in this regard. Moreover, it turned out to be an April fool Prank.
