A video is going viral on social media platforms showing some people detained by the Police. Additionally, some people can also be seen chanting slogans in support of Khalistan.
A verified user named Parkash Kumar Bheel posted this video on Twitter(X) and wrote: “Protests outside the R&AW office in #Amritsar have surged in response to Hardeep Singh’s killing in Canada. Sikhs are chanting slogans in support of #Khalistan”
Fact-Check
To verify the claims made through the above viral video, the DFRAC team converted it into some keyframes and reverse-searched it on Google. Meanwhile, we found this video on YouTube. The video was posted by a channel named TV84 on July 1, 2023.
For further investigation, we also searched for protest-related news stories on Google. After this, we discovered a media report published on July 1, 2023, by the news website ‘The Tribune’.
In this report, The Tribune revealed: “The police detained the activists of Dal Khalsa who were taking out a march to hold a protest outside the local office of India’s external intelligence agency RAW to protest the killings of Sikh separatists in foreign countries, here on Saturday”.
Conclusion
It is clear from DFRAC’s Fact-Check that the viral video is misleading since the video dates back to July 1, 2023.
