The Asia Cup match between India and Pakistan on 2nd sept was cancelled because of rain. Amidst this, a misleading claim went viral about cricketer Sunil Gavaskar and his comment on BCCI.
A user on twitter named Hassan shared a tweet with the caption, “Sunil Gavaskar on NDTV: It should be a matter of utter shame for us as Indians for politicizing, ruining and basically hijacking this beautiful game of cricket. BCCI has let India down and tonight’s results are a testimony of it.”
In further comments, the user was himself found criticising BCCI.
Another user, a parody account with the name of Sunil Gavasker, also shared the same viral claim.
Fact Check
On investigation, DFRAC found that the viral Claim was absolutely false. Rohan Gavaskar, son of Sunil Gavaskar, shared a tweet where he termed the viral claim as a ‘fabricated statement’.
He even further clarified, “He is under contract with India Today so he wouldn’t speak to Ndtv anyway”.
The viral claim has also been denied by multiple media reports on cricket news websites and News 18.
Conclusion:
From the #factcheck, it is evident that the claim made by the Pakistani Twitter handle is False. No such statement was said by Cricketer Sunil Gavaskar.
