India and Pakistan are on high alert over Cyclone Biporjoy,which is expected to hit both countries’ Arabian Sea coasts on June 15. Meanwhile when both the countries are preparing for Cyclone Biporjoy,Social media is all flooded with the videos and pictures claiming to be of the incident.
Similarly, a video of a massive sandstorm sweeping across a water body is being shared on social media. Social media users are claiming that this storm was approaching Pakistan’s Karachi.
Fact Check:
To investigate the viral video DFRAC team converted the video into different frames and reverse searched it and found many media reports related to this video.
According to a CNN report published on June 2, the video was from a sandstorm in Egypt’s Suez Canal. The report also said while sandstorms are common in Egypt during the summer, this one was “unusually strong”.also the storm killed one person and injured many.
We also found the same video in a BBC report from the same date. According to it, the sandstorm occurred on June 1.
Conclusion:
Hence, it is clear from the DFRAC’S investigation that the video is from Egypt’s Swiz Canal and not from Pakistan.
