For Muslims, India is the safest country, read the fact-check on Owaisi’s misleading statement

A screenshot of a tweet by News 24 about All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) President and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi is going viral on social media. The tweet reads, “India is the safest country for minorities, Rahul [Gandhi] should stop making misleading statements against India while abroad. Asaduddin Owaisi’s U-turn on Rahul’s comments in the United States.” Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is currently on a tour of the United States, where he made some strong comments about Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Other media houses have also made similar tweets on Owaisi’s statement.

Through investigating into this, DFRAC found that there is no such tweet by News 24. On the other hand, we found a tweet in which it was asked, “You were asked about Muslims and you are talking about Dalits. There have been several instances in your government against Muslims” followed by “@asadowaisi’s U-turn on Rahul’s comments in the United States.”

Conclusion:
The fact-check by DFRAC shows that Owaisi did not say that India is the safest country for minorities and the tweet shown in the screenshot is edited.
