Fact Check: The reality of the video went viral with the claim that Indian Police are thrashing a Muslim man

A video in which a Policeman is thrashing a man is going massively viral on social media accounts. The video is being shared as an example of atrocities in Muslims happening in India. @SupportProphetM has shared this video with the caption Arabic caption which can be translated into English as, “Hindu crimes do not stop .. Hindu police brutally assault an elderly Muslim!” Along with the hashtags- “#boycott _ French _ products 748, #Expelling _ Hindu _ Employment and #ExpelHindus from the Gulf” –

Sharing the same video @India__Muslim wrote in Arabic caption which can be nearly translated into English as, “When they become extremists in power..It is natural for their police to treat them with such filth, especially with Muslims… India is an example.”

Similarly, many other social media users have shared this video with a similar claim and hateful hashtags.

Fact Check

On reverse image of different keyframes of the video, we found the same clip on the verified Youtube channel of Times Now. The video was uploaded two on 6th April 2020 with the headline “Coronavirus scare: Crowd attacks Bareilly Police for enforcing a lockdown.”

At 46 seconds of the above video, the viral clip can be seen. This incident is of Bareilly. In the description of the video, it was mentioned that “The police force had asked about 20 people flouting prohibitory orders to disperse, the crowd instead of listening attacked the police, many cops sustained injuries.

Conclusion

Therefore, from this fact check it is clear that no communal angle is involved in the above video. However, many social media users are sharing this video with misleading claims and giving it a Hindu-Muslim angle.
