A picture of South African cricketer Wayne Parnell with his wife and children is going viral on social media. Along with the picture, it is claimed that Parnell has converted to Islam with the whole family after studying Islam for a long time.

A user on Twitter writes, “Alhamdulillah After studying Islam for a long time, South African cricketer Wayne Parnell converted to Islam with his family! Now our brother’s name is Wahid!!”

To investigate the viral claim, the DFRAC team simply searched on Google about South African cricketer Wayne Parnell converting to Islam and found that he had converted to Islam in 2011, not recently.

According to a report published on TOI (Times of India) and other news sites on 28 July 2011, South African fast bowler Wayne Parnell converted himself to Islam.
