An image showing food being discarded is circulating online with claims that RJD workers dumped rasgullas on the ground following their defeat in the Bihar Elections.
An account named Ranjan Singh shared the claim, stating, “Rasgullas were buried instead of being given to the poor because an RJD strongman lost the election -Bihar Election Result.” (Translated into English)
Fact Check
Upon investigation, we found the post to be misleading. The image shows contaminated sweets infested with flies that were discovered during a food safety inspection in Sirsa, Haryana, in 2020. The sweets were seized by the Chief Minister’s flying squad and officials from the Food Safety Department due to unhygienic conditions.
First, we conducted a reverse image search on the image. This led us to the news report by Amar Ujala published on 10 Nov 2020. The report informed that samples were taken from the oil warehouse on Rangdi Road and the Shri Radhe Rasgulla plant in Ram Gali on Kanganpura Road. These will be sent to the laboratory for testing. Additionally, one quintal of spoiled sweets from the Rasgulla factory was destroyed.
It is clear that the image is not from Bihar and has no connection to the RJD or the Bihar elections.
Conclusion
Thus, the viral post is misleading. The image is not from Bihar nor is it related to RJD’s electoral loss. It originates from a 2020 food safety operation in Sirsa, Haryana.
