Fact-Check: Manipulation in Road Construction in Punjab. Here’s The Reality

A video is being shared on social media claiming that there is a manipulation in the road construction in Punjab. In the video, a person shows the poor construction by eradicating the road with his hands. Users who share this video, are criticizing the Punjab government including taking a dig at the Aam Aadmi Party’s claim of being staunchly honest.

Fact-Check

To verify the authenticity of the viral video, the DFRAC team converted it into some keyframes and reverse-searched it on Google. Meanwhile, we found this video posted on Facebook pages named ‘Naraingarh Uday’ and ‘Ambala News Updates’ mentioning that the video shows the road being built between Dahri Modh of Naraingarh to Bahloli in the Ambala district of Haryana.

For more information, our team inquired by calling the number provided on the Facebook page of ‘Naraingarh Uday’. As per conversation, the video is from Ambala district, Haryana. In addition, the video was also uploaded on ‘Naraingarh Uday’s YouTube Channel.

Upon investigating further, we found a media report by India News Haryana. It has also uploaded a video with the title: “Allegations of substandard use of the material in Ambala road construction”. In this video, villagers can be seen alleging that substandard material was used in road construction.

Conclusion

It is clear from DFRAC’s Fact-Check that the viral video is not from Punjab but from Ambala, Haryana. Therefore, the claim of social media users is misleading.
