Digitally edited image of Mamta Banerjee goes viral
An image of a young lady in a Indian attire called saree is going viral on social media platform X(formerly Twitter). Users are sharing this image and claiming that the lady shown in the viral image is Bengal CM Mamta Banerjee
An account with the username @sanjayfadnavis1 posted this image on X and wrote: “If some groom had liked this photo when she was 25, today West Bengal would have been a peaceful state”
Subsequently, the image has been shared by several users with similar claims. The link can be seen here, here and here.
Fact-Check
On investigation, the DFRAC found that the image was digitally edited. We checked for the image in the AI face swap tool and it generated the exact viral image of Mamta Banerjee. Thus we verify it as an ai generated image.
Upon investigating further, we found some similar images on a facebook page named Jannat closet but with a different face. Below given a collage will show you the disparities.
Conclusion
It is clear from DFRAC’s fact-check that the viral image of Mamta Banerjee is digitally edited.
