On social media, a video is going viral with the claim that “In Bangladesh, Jamaat-e-Islami and BNP terrorists are now forcing Hindu government officials to write resignations and removing them from government service”.
Fact Check
On investigation, DFRAC found that she is Amena Begum Principal of Kazi Nazrul College. We found multiple media reports from Aug 11. According to Jagonews24.com “Professor Amena Begum, principal of Kabi Nazrul Government College, has resigned in the face of students. On Sunday (August 11), the students of Kabi Nazrul College branch involved in the anti-discrimination student movement protested for his resignation”.
Furthermore, we also found a report from TBS News stating some lines from the resignation letter “For personal reasons, I am submitting this resignation letter to you, effective this afternoon, from the position of Vice-Chancellor. I hope for the continued development of Comilla University, including its students, faculty, staff, and overall growth. I would be grateful if you accept my resignation.” wrote the former VC in his. The principal of Kabi Nazrul College submitted a three-word resignation letter”.
Conclusion
It is evident from the DFRAC’s fact check that the woman seen in the video is a principal of Kazi Nazrul College. Her name is Amena Begum and she is not a Hindu govt. official who has been forced by Jamaat-e-Islami and BNP terrorists to resign. Therefore, the claim of social media users is misleading.
