GMC SRINAGAR

A video is being shared widely where a group of people can be marching in a protest. The video is being linked to the protests at GMC Srinagar over the alleged blasphemous post by a non-local medical student against the Prophet.

Protests erupt in Srinagar over a blasphemy incident committed by a Hindu student against the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Fact Check

We investigated the viral video by putting it into keyframes and reverse-searched the frames. During the process, we found the video in our DFRAC’s Fact Check Archive from which we found the video is an old one. It is from the NIT protests of Srinagar dated back to November 2023.

Furthermore, matching key frames from the video were also found in an article by The Greater Kashmir dated November 29, 2023.

According to media reports, a non-local medical student at the Srinagar Government Medical College here was suspended on Wednesday following protests by fellow students against his alleged blasphemous post on a caller app. However the viral video is not associated with the GMC incident.

Conclusion

Thus, from the fact check it is clear that the viral video is from 2023 and not associated with recent Protests in GMC Srinagar.
