A post claiming that women wearing nail paint would not be allowed to vote was shared on social media (Facebook) on Sunday, 19th May. The post read: ‘Important message: All ladies please remove nail polish from fingers or else you will not be allowed to vote.’
Fact Check
The DFRAC team did a thorough research regarding the claim and found no mention about any such restriction on the official social media account of the Election Commission of India.
Additionally, on going through the pocket-guide for voters available on the website, there is no mention of such measures to be taken by women. Only gadgets are restricted in the booth.
Moreover, no other media outlet has confirmed the claim about the presence of any such restrictions on women for voting.
CONCLUSION
It is clear from the fact check by DFRAC that the shared post saying that women should remove their nail paint or else they would not be allowed to vote is fake, as there is no such mention about this anywhere by the Election Commission of India.
