A video is getting viral on X, showing armed men in a closed space with a lot of weapons.
Claim
Through the viral video this claim has been made that the video shows Hamas members storing weapons in a tunnel made inside Al Shifa hospital.
Several users shared the video
Many Indian journalists, Suresh Chavhanke and Abhishek Upadhyay have shared the viral video with similar captions. Suresh Chavhanke of Sudarshan News shared the video with caption, “ Hamas terrorists had built a tunnel and stored a cache of weapons in Gaza’s Al Shifa Hospital. Will those who call for peace and humanity say anything now on the use of a place like a hospital for terror? ”
Fact Check
On our investigation we found out that the video was shared by an Israeli journalist on X with username @hananamiur on 31 Aug 2023. He shared the video with caption, “Caught today in Ramallah. A fitting formal parable to mark the 30th anniversary of Oslo – the most serious and disastrous mistake in the history of the Zionist enterprise.”
What did the report say?
On Google key word search, we also found out a report by Business News published on 31 Aug 2023 with headline, “Viral video of ‘Hamas tunnels’ is from August and not from Hamas.”The article quoted the tweet by @hananamiur from 31 Aug 2023 and reported that the video did’nt show Hamas storing weapons in a tunnel in Al Shifa hospital.
Conclusion
DFRAC’s investigation proved that the claim made in the viral video is misleading and false. The video is old and did’nt show Hamas storing weapons in a tunnel in Al Shifa hospital.
