Fact-Check
To determine the truth behind the viral claim, the DFRAC team searched with the help of some Keywords on Google and found that the Taj-ul-Masjid of Bhopal is the largest Masjid in India.
Media Reports from Jagran and Zee Saleem
We discovered some reports from Jagran and Zee Saleem refuting the above viral claim.
According to a media report published by the Newspaper website ‘Jagran’, the Taj-ul-Masjid present in Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh, is not only the largest mosque in the country but also one of the largest mosques in Asia. This mosque, which is very beautiful to look at, is also called the “Crown of Mosques”. More than 100,000 people can offer namaz simultaneously in this mosque built on about 5.68 acres.
Following this, Zee Saleem also clarified this fact in its report published in the year 2022. It stated that thetaj-ul-Masjid is 33 percent bigger than Jama Masjid. Delhi’s historian Sohail Hashmi said that the architecturally rich Jama Masjid holds an important place not because of its size but because of the special style of Mughal architecture. This mosque has inspired many people to follow the original design. Apart from the Taj-ul-Masjid, the design of the Badshahi Mosque built by Aurangzeb, which is in Lahore, is also based on it.
Moreover, DFRAC team has fact-checked this claim earlier. The link can be seen here.
Conclusion
Hence, it is clear from DFRAC’s Fact-check that the Taj ul Masjid of Bhopal is indeed the largest Mosque in India, not Delhi’s Jama Masjid.
