“There is nothing wrong in eating beef” – Congress Leader Digvijay Singh. Read Fact Check

Nisar Ahmed Siddiqui October 31, 2023
“There is nothing wrong in eating beef” – Congress Leader Digvijay Singh.

“There is nothing wrong in eating beef” – Congress Leader Digvijay Singh.

A video collage of the statement of Congress leader and former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh is going viral on social media. In a video of this collage, Digvijay Singh can be seen describing himself as a follower of Sanatan Dharma and devotee of Ram. In the second video, he can be seen asserting that Hindu religion has no connection with Hindutva and there is nothing wrong in eating beef.

While sharing this video, Arun Bajpai Rajan (@arunbajpairajan) wrote, “Look at the opportunism of sharecroppers of Madhya Pradesh The one who calls himself a devotee of Ram and Sanatani is openly saying from the open platform that You can clearly see the difference between a river and a drain, These Congressmen have fallen so far in their opposition to Modi that they will accept it by destroying their own and Congress’s soil??”

Fact Check

To know the truth of the viral video, DFRAC team converted the video into some keyframes and reverse-searched it on Google. We found some information related to the viral video that Digvijay Singh was quoting Veer Savarkar in his statement during the Jag Jagran Abhiyan Programme in Bhopal on December,2021

This statement of Digvijay Singh was uploaded on the YouTube channel of Times Now Navbharat on 25 December. While quoting Veer Savarkar’s book in his statement, Digvijay Singh was saying “Veer Savarkar in his book wrote that there is no connection of Hinduism  with Hindutva. Singh further said: “Savarkar had written in his book that there is nothing wrong in eating beef.”

Conclusion

It is clear from the DFRAC’s fact check that Digvijay Singh in his statement was quoting Veer Savarkar’s book. He was giving example of the things written in Veer Savarkar’s book regarding beef. Thus, social media users’ claim is misleading.
