With the release of the movie, The Kerala Story, there has been a deluge in social media users claiming that Hindu girls are retaliating Love Jihad.
A user on Twitter by the name of Amitabh Chaudhary shared photos of a non-judicial stamp paper and a copy of a notice under The Special Marriage Act, 1954 and claimed that a Hindu woman in Gujarat called off her marriage with a Muslim man after watching the film.
By the writing of this article the re tweets of this post has already crossed 3k.
Archive version of the same claim by @astitvam79 is provided here.
Fact Check:
The first photo displayed a duly notarized non-judicial stamp paper of Rs 50 denomination issued by the state of Gujarat on March 22, 2022.
The second photo depicted a notice of marriage issued under section 5 of the Special Marriage Act, which mandates that parties intending to marry under this Act must provide written notice to the Marriage Officer of the district.
Although the viral post claimed that the marriage was scheduled for May 23, 2023, the actual notice shared did not contain a specific date. It did, however, include the names Pooja Rajput and Sheikh Mohammad Sajid.
According to Sajid, the documents being circulated online were indeed submitted to the Marriage Registrar’s office. However, they were leaked, and individuals with malicious intent falsely linked them to ‘The Kerala Story.'(According the the interview given to India Today)
Conclusion:
Therefore, the claim made by social media users, suggesting that a Hindu woman canceled her wedding due to the movie ‘The Kerala Story,’ is misleading as the incident is an yaer old.
